Moving Checklist

Testing the waters first before taking the plunge is your best bet  if you are moving from one place to another. This is why you need to settle first things first. If you are careful in every step of the way, you will be rewarded with a smooth moving day as well as easiness to adapt in the new place that you are moving to.

Give yourself enough time before moving. If you can afford it, go to the place that you are moving in to. Having a short vacation in the place that you plan to relocate will give you a first hand feel of how things are going on in there. You can contact a friend who lives in that city that you are living in. You can also join websites like Couchsurfing where you get to stay in the houses of other people who are fellow members. Staying in a residential area for a couple of days or two is so much better than by going at a hotel as you will get the information, feel and whatnot of the neighborhood in the area or city that you want to move in to.

Look into your finances, most especially if your expenses will be out of your own pocket. If you are moving to another place because of a job offer and your house will be paid for by the company, good for you. But if you are moving in at your own will, think of the house that you plan to have. Would you be comfortable in an apartment or you prefer a house of your own? Make it a point that all of queries are answered before making any big decisions that way you can put regrets out of the picture.

If you can not afford to check out the place that you are moving to prior to actually moving in, research is your best option. You can take virtual tours of the city. You can even ask for virtual tours of the neighborhood that you plan to move into. You can also join local forums of the place that you re moving to that way, you know the ins and the outs of the place before moving in.
