• The first cookbook written by an American was American Cookery by Amelia Simmons, which was published in Hartford in 1796.
• The first telephone book published in the United States was issued by the New Haven District Telephone Company in 1878.
• In 1939, the state’s first FM radio station began to broadcast on WDRC-FM.
• The first law school in the United States, Tapping Reeve Law School, was established in 1784.
